FOG Design+Art 2026
Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture
Booth 211
Artworks by Midcentury masters - Harry Bertoia, Bruce Conner, Jay DeFeo, Jess (Burgess Collins) and Wayne Thiebaud - are juxtaposed with pieces by contemporary international artists - Jim Campbell, Jutta Haeckel, Andrea Higgins, Isabella Kirkland, Stefan Kürten, Emil Lukas, Nicole Phungrasamee Fein - in a presentation curated to show the influences of American Modernism and San Francisco's Beat era culture as well as the richness and diversity of the Hosfelt Gallery program.
A highlight is the unique sculpture that Harry Bertoia made for Knoll, from which they developed the extraordinary Asymmetric Lounge Chair. Hand made by Bertoia in 1952, it was so revolutionary and impossible to manufacture affordably, it was not produced commercially until 2005. The sculpture is significantly different from the production piece and illustrates Bertoia's innovation, exceptional facility with material, and the extraordinary influence he's had on modern design.
