Timothy Berry: Inheritance
The work of Bay-area figurative painter Timothy Berry is peopled with nursery rhyme creatures, libidinous flora, exotic over-ripe fruit, and the groping tendrils of aggressive vegetation. In luminous, jewel-like color, Berry portrays the sunny garden of childhood as a place where a darker adult world lies just beneath the surface.
Hosfelt Gallery will exhibit Berry’s latest paintings, the series, “Inheritance.” The paintings travel through the pageant of life, using wandering minstrels, clowns, and circus performers as guides. This series of tableaux employs both humor and melancholy to examine the foibles and joys of life.
Timothy Berry has exhibited paintings and prints nationally and internationally, as well as running Teaberry Press, the fine art intaglio workshop. Berry will be the subject of a mid-career survey at the Palo Alto Cultural Center in February – April, 1998.
