New Space/New Work: Danziger, O'Reilly, Barnes, Berry, El Hanani, Grffin, Jaar, McCarthy, Meyers, Ortins, Sikander, Wegner

Overview

Hosfelt Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of a new, three-gallery, 5,000 square foot exhibition space designed by noted San Francisco architect Anne Fougeron. The gallery is located at 430 Clementina at Fifth Street, between Folsom and Howard Streets.

The space will open with a group exhibition of new work by gallery artists, and work by artists new to the gallery.

Included will be pieces premiering entirely new bodies of work by David Ortins, John O’Reilly, Peter Wegner, Richard Barnes, Timothy Berry and Ron Griffin.

As in his two preceding bodies of work, Peter Wegner appropriates imagery from the world of commerce. Leaving behind housepaint color systems and typography samples, his new paintings mine a ubiquitous advertising source with compelling results. David Ortins explores material and surface in new paintings of blood on canvas. John O’Reilly exhibits intricate photographs inspired by a murdered youth, and Richard Barnes shows large-scale photographs that elevate a notorious domicile to iconic status.

New works by Shahzia Sikander, Alfredo Jaar, Catherine McCarthy, Reed Danziger, Jacob El Hanani and Amy Myers will be juxtaposed with work by several young international artists who have not previously exhibited in San Francisco.
