Timothy Berry: Res Non Verba

Overview

The Latin title translates, “deeds not words.” San Francisco artist Timothy Berry’s new paintings announce a departure from his previous works based in narrative. In these works he explores pattern and iconography, borrowing motifs from eastern and western traditions as diverse as illuminated manuscripts, brocade fabrics and Buddhist mandalas. Layer upon layer of rich color and appropriated antique imagery of flora and fauna create collage-like images that inhabit a space somewhere between botanical prints and children’s book illustration.
