Since receiving the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art's SECA Award in 2002, Higgins has honed a singular tradition of flooring, pulsating "thread-by-thread" paintings of historical and contemporary textiles. Intrigued not only by how we choose and use our wardrobes and accouterments but also how they use us, she paints magnifications of fabric swatches that elicit almost uncanny emotional responses.
