The composition of this piece places the audience directly within the maker’s perspective: reflecting on a lifetime of the study and celebration of the natural world and humanity’s evolving relationship to it. "At My Desk" considers the kinship between science and art. Both disciplines arise from a shared impulse: to observe with devotion, to compare, to question, to learn through intimacy with the subject at hand. Such prolonged attention can produce a transformative shift—a recalibration of perception that alters the object of study, the one who studies it, and perhaps, in this case, the viewer as well.
