Peter Wegner: American Types

Overview

In the first solo exhibition of Peter Wegner, a young artist from Portland, Wegner exerpts from “The Book of American Types,” published in 1941 by the American Type Founders of Elizabeth, New Jersey.  Each canvas reproduces and enlarges a detail from a page.  The lists of words are found.  Accidental, yet purposeful. Meaningless and suggestive.  Seemingly, both random and ordered.  At the same time philosophical inquiry and rigorous abstraction.

The exhibition is accompanied by limited edition artist’s books.
