John Andrews’ reductive paintings are made on the surfaces of polished, black-pigmented, beeswax slabs. Closely-spaced pin pricks form pattern — formal and repetitive. Both mathematical and meditative. The persistence of the mark-making forms fields that are at the same time flat and deep, solid and fluid, painting and object.
