Roland Flexner: New Works on Paper
French artist ROLAND FLEXNER makes drawings by blowing inky soap bubbles onto clay paper. Depending upon the proportion of ink, the breath, the moment the bubble is released onto the paper, or the point in the process in which he bursts the bubble with a pin—and, of course, chance—Flexner coaxes drawings of amazing variety and beauty.
The work references not only John Cage and Yves Kline but also Man Ray and Edwaerd Muybridge. They are documents of a moment in time, or a single breath from a life. Strangely photographic, they could be photograms or the telescopic images of stars, planets and galaxies.
