The wood is KOA, and comes from Hawaii, yet I bought it in Chico, at a woodworkers place. I saw it, and knew immediately I needed to have it, and work with it. It was a very large chunk that I cut, so both pieces come out of the same piece of wood. Then I shaped it into 2 seemingly simple forms, that are complex at the same time.
My drawings have a complexity and a simplicity, and my sculpture have a simplicity and a complexity.
The man I bought it from had it standing in his shop for a long time so it was nice dry, and ready for me to work with.
