Overview

New York Gallery

‘Moonlighting’ generally means the second job one takes to make ends meet. In this case, the second job may be the only job. Most artists don’t make a living solely by their art practice. The job that comes with the paycheck allows the artist to do the work that’s really important to them. This is an exhibition of 20 energetic New York-area artists with day-jobs supporting various components of the art market. By day these artists are installers, curators, administrators, editors, educators, programmers, and fabricators still managing to carve out a rich and productive studio practice while providing infrastructure for the art market. The exhibition was curated by Baseera Khan who is an artist working with paper, animations, and video while living in Brooklyn, NY. She is also the Assistant Curator for BRIC Rotunda Gallery of BRIC Arts | Media | Bklyn. Artists include Nicole Arendt, Colleen Asper, Brendan Carroll, Graham Collins, Anais Daly, Randall Friedman, Brian Fridge, Eric Graham, Nina Horisaki-Christens, Hawley Hussey, Patrick Killoran, Philip Maysles, Filip Noterdaeme, Alan Reid, Nader Sadek, Annie Shaw, Aaron Simonton, Tuesday Smillie, Johanna Taylor, and Danielle Webb.
