Sept. 11, 1973 is the date that the military coup in Chile brought down the Allende government and put Augusto Pinochet in power, ushering in years of brutal oppression and dictatorship. This piece speaks to how every day afterwards was tainted and homogenized by that fatal event. Alfredo made the piece in 1974, but reprinted it for Hosfelt Gallery's 'Time Flies' group show curated by Dianne Dec in 2011, and it now also ironically and ominously references Sept. 11, 2001, when terrorists hijacked 2 airplanes that destroyed the World Trade Center towers in New York City, and 2 other planes directed at the White House and Pentagon.
