Join us for a tour of our current exhibition of William T. Wiley, led by Rachel Teagle, the founding director of the Manetti Shrem Museum at UC Davis. She'll discuss the show and walk us through the legendary artist and UC Davis professor's work and legacy.
Teagle came to UC Davis in 2012 with an interest in socially engaged art and artist-driven programming. As the museum’s founding director, she defined a vision committed to building on the university’s legacy of exceptional teaching and practice of the arts to create transformational art experiences to inspire new thinking and open exchange of ideas. The museum opened in 2016 following a successful $30 million capital campaign, and continues to offer free admission for all exhibitions and programs as it approaches its 10-year anniversary.
Teagle has curated a number of foundational exhibitions at the museum, including Wayne Thiebaud: 1958–1968, and most recently, Deborah Butterfield: P.S. These are not horses. Under her leadership, the Manetti Shrem Museum has also given artists Sadie Barnette, Loie Hollowell, and Ruby Neri their first solo U.S. museum shows.
Teagle holds a Ph.D. in art history from Stanford University. She previously served for five years as the executive director of The New Children’s Museum in San Diego, and has held curatorial positions at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Anderson Collection.
