In Scattered Light Prototype we see the artist experimenting with space, taking a 2-dimensional video (of 3-dimensional figures walking), and pulling the pixels apart to create a three dimensional sculpture. This unique maquette is the first work of this type — the artist experimenting to figure out how he would make the large scale outdoor piece that debuted in Madison Square Park in New York (2010/2011) and the work commissioned for the atrium of SFMoMA (2011).
