For more than 50 years, the poet-philosopher Wiley has combined language and image, non-hierarchically, to address the most important social, political and environmental issues of the times. His visual vocabulary of repeating motifs, combined with word play – running internal monologues, spiked with puns, double entendre and malapropism – is an open-ended investigation into the moral issues of today's global citizen.
In Field of Dreams with Cluster Bombs Wiley arranges common signs and symbols in an open web-like grid. These seemingly straight-forward images take on new meanings through their juxtaposition with other emblems and the language that surrounds them. The combinations both offer new perspectives and confuses their assumed meanings.
