Composed of satellite images of the ocean, a NOAA buoy (the fly button), and Island Freeman in San Pedro Harbor (the label), and of redacted images of divers found online (the holes). Island Freeman is one of the THUMS Islands, a set of four artificial islands built in 1965 for oil rigging. The islands were elaborately landscaped to camouflage the drilling rigs from the shoreline. Since 1967 they have been known as the Astronaut Islands, having been renamed in honor of the first American astronauts to lose their lives.
