This work is a "portrait" of Michelle Obama wearing a dress by American designer Narciso Rodriguez. Michelle Obama chose to wear dresses by Rodriguez on several important occasions, including her husband’s first state of the union address in 2009 and his last in 2016. She also wore Rodriguez (who is the child of Cuban immigrants) when she welcomed incoming First Lady, Melania Trump, to the White House -- in what was speculated to be a statement about Melania's husband's rhetoric around immigration.
