A line that begins on the hand in virtual space and then continues onto the real space of the wall is a classic situation of “broken vision” – a concept originated by Luis Felipe Noé, an artist who was very influential to Porter during her early years in New York. “Broken vision” occurs when elements from divergent sources are combined to create a new situation, one which defies logic and questions established conventions or ideas, such as authorship, beauty, or the linearity of time.
